Karena present maka harus diubah menjadi Indirect Speech yang harus dalam Past Tense dengan alasan karena si penutur menyampaikan sesuatu yang disampaikan oleh penutur yang lain atau dalam kata lain sudah terjadi.
Indirect Speech dalam Past Tense:
He told me (atau He said) that he usually read a book before going to sleep.
"I" diubah menjadi "he" dan read (present tense) diubah menjadi read (past tense).
*PS: Karena read tidak mengalami perubahan bentuk dalam past tense maka bentuk penulisan tetap tapi memiliki perbedaan di pengucapan. Read dalam present tense dibaca 'rid' sedang dalam past tense dibaca 'red' seperti membaca kata "red" (warna merah).
