Simple Past Tense dan Past Perfect Tense
Simple past tense digunakan untuk membicarakan aksi yang telah rampung (completed action) atau situasi di masa lampau (past situation) yang biasanya didampingi dengan time adverbial (informasi waktu) yang spesifik, seperti: last week, yesterday, in 2000, the last time, dan some time ago.
Tense ini dapat pula digunakan untuk aksi yang terjadi berulang kali di masa lampau (repeated past events).
Past perfect tense digunakan ketika kita sudah membahas aksi atau situasi yang terjadi di masa lampau (past event/situation) dan ingin membicarakan aksi atau situasi (earlier past event/situation)yang terjadi sebelumnya.
Simple past yang menjadi later event, dan past perfect tense sering berada di dalam satu kalimat.
